HOW TO: Make Slime for Kids

HOW TO: Make Slime for Kids

I wanted to start including my little boys in on some fun arts and crafts. I’m actually a little girl locked inside a grown body. I still love doing art projects {drawing, coloring, cutting and collages}. Any excuse to create or make crafts I’m there! So I think my boys are at the age where they can enjoy those things now too. I’m so excited because the holidays are coming up and I love for them to make their own holiday decorations and ornaments. Those are memories kids never forget when they’re older. They need to learn to use their creative minds and create their own visions with art. It just shows them another opportunity to express themselves. I’m here for it!

My four year old had mentioned he watched a slime video and I made slime years ago for my now 15 year old at one of his birthday parties and it was such a hit. I thought now would be a good time to introduce my little ones to this little task. It could be so much fun if they take part and get their little hands dirty or sticky too. While making this slime, it became easier for me to do the mixing because it kind of gets thick and it’s not so easy for those little arms. They can use our help. Once we create it they can play with it. Which to them is just as fun!

I hope you decide to try this little craft out with your kids or even by yourself {I would do it by myself even if I didn’t have kids…shh don’t tell anyone} and enjoy it as much as we did!

Materials You Will Need

8 ounce Glass Measuring Cup

1 Measuring Teaspoon

1 Fork

1 Large Mixing Bowl-per kid

1 Spoon-per kid

1 Measuring Tablespoon

Ingredients You Will Need

1 cup Hot Water

1 teaspoon Borax

1- 4 ounce Elmer’s Glue-per kid

½ cup Shaving Cream-per kid

½ cup Foaming Hand Soap-per kid

1 tablespoon Baby Powder-per kid

Hand or Body Lotion

Liquid Food Coloring

Step 1-Prepare The Borax Solution

Add 1 cup of hot water to a glass measuring cup and heat in microwave for 1 minute. You can either transfer to a small bowl or just add in 1 teaspoon Borax Powder and stir until it’s completely dissolved. The, set it aside to cool until you’re ready to use it.

Step 2- Make The Base

In a large mixing bowl, empty the entire bottle of glue..

then add the ½ cup shaving cream..

the ½ cup foaming hand soap..

and the 1 tablespoon of baby powder.

Using your spoon mix to combine.

Step 3- Color The Slime

Next, add in a few pumps of hand or body lotion {this helps the slime stretch} and about 5 drops  food coloring of choice.

Mix again to combine.

Step 4- Activate The Slime

Then, using the “Slime Activator” {Borax Solution} add in 3 teaspoons at a time. Don’t overdue it because it’s possible to harden and then it’s no use. Keep mixing and folding it into each other. Scraping the sides to combine it all around. Then, add another 3 teaspoons and mix again. Try only adding 1 teaspoon at a time and mix, then if needed another teaspoon of solution.

Then have fun! Play with it, Explore it, just have FUN with it! You can keep it fresh by saving it in a sealed food storage container. Just squeeze it to reactivate it’s stretchiness.

There’s too many of us not to be ready ahead of time. You don’t want to have to stress and be frantic when you only have a few minutes to get out. It’s much better to be ready and prepared, don’t you think?
